Celtic are paying the price for ‘unforgivable’ window as alarming stats emerge

Celtic’s lack of transfer business during the summer is continuing to hurt the Scottish Champions on the pitch.

Hearts jumped to the top of the Scottish Premiership after Celtic‘s 0-0 draw with Hibs meant they dropped points for a second time this season.

Daizen Maeda’s admission he wanted to leave Celtic and poor form, alongside the late arrival of Kelechi Iheanacho to the club has not helped the Hoops as an attacking force.

Celtic fans are protesting against the club owners and stats back up the sense that Brendan Rodgers’ side are weaker than they were last season.

Celtic stats show slump in three areas after Hibernian defeat

Celtic have already been knocked out the Champions League, and they’ve already drawn blanks in two league games.

The Hoops’ key attacking stats per 90 minutes are all down currently on last season, and Rodgers has little to change games from the bench.

Stat/Season2024-252025-26 Season
Goals per 902.891.33
Shots per 9018.7616.33
Shots on Target per 907.245.50

34-year-old James Forrest was substituted onto the pitch before summer arrival Michel-Ange Balikwisha when Celtic were searching for a breakthrough against Hibs.

In that match alone Celtic had 77% possession, 26 shots and eight big chances, but they were wasteful in-front of goal and failed to come away with three points.

Celtic had an ‘unforgivable’ transfer window

Chris Sutton called Celtic’s transfer window “unforgivable,” as per the Daily Record [September 2nd], and right now the Hoops are paying the price.

Maeda only has one goal this season after netting 16 last campaign, and the 27-year-old is currently a major worry.

Much of Celtic’s activity happened after their Champions League exit, and despite a positive 1-1 draw at Red Star Belgrade to kick-off their Europa League campaign, Rodgers’ side do not look equipped for a deep run in the competition.

Celtic are currently in a title race with Hearts, who they meet at Tynecastle in under a months time.

The January transfer window could be key for Celtic to move clear of their closest challengers, as they need more firepower and squad depth to get them over the line.
