Finance guru: New deal proves Celtic are the ‘main attraction’ as Rangers snub confirmed
Celtic are a “massive” draw and will always be front and centre of any commercial agreement signed by the SPFL.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumly, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the SPFL’s new league-wide NFT partnership.
Celtic announced last Thursday (21 April) that they had signed up alongside 10 other Scottish Premiership clubs to the Sorare NFT platform.
Rangers are the only team not included in the deal, with the Ibrox club abstaining because of a pre-existing NFT partnership.
Plumley explained that the absence of their Glasgow rivals in the commercial deal makes the Hoops the “main attraction” for the SPFL.
“This one is a little bit different because Rangers aren’t involved,” the Sheffield Hallam University told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Any organisation that signs a deal with that league is going to be looking primarily at Celtic and Rangers. They are the main attraction.
“That’s no disrespect to the other clubs. This is just the reality of it.
“I still think there is more value to extract from that league because there are other big rivalries within it.
“So, the SPFL can build on that but commercial partners are going to be looking at Celtic and Rangers first and foremost.”

Celtic recorded £17million in income from media and commercial activities in their last set of accounts.
