‘It’s been unbelievable’: Celtic attacker delivers verdict on Rodgers relationship
By Matt Farr
Celtic attacker Scott Sinclair has delivered a glowing verdict on the role Brendan Rodgers has played throughout his career.
Rodgers moved to acquire the 28-year-old winger from Aston Villa last summer, having previously worked alongside him whilst at both Swansea and Chelsea, extending their footballing relationship for a third term.
Sinclair has been a star performer for Celtic this term, contributing 25 goals and 11 assists from 46 appearances in all competitions this season, and insists Rodgers has been a ‘great gaffer to work under.’
He told the Scottish Sun: “With me, I think he just gives me that belief. When you are playing under a boss like Brendan, you are given that licence and freedom to go out and play and just enjoy it while working hard, you can’t ask for more.
“I’ve played under so many managers who haven’t got time for you to progress, or have one or two games that aren’t so good as they are under such pressure.
“With Brendan it’s been unbelievable. I did well at Swansea under him and was at Chelsea as a youngster. He’s a great gaffer to work under.”
Sinclair’s scintillating displays in Scotland this season are a stark contrast to that of his torrid time at Aston Villa as they were relegated from the Premier League a year ago.
The former England youth international scored just twice and failed to register a single assist from 27 Premier League appearances during his short stint at Villa Park.
But linking up with Rodgers as manager for the second time in his career has brought out the best once again in Sinclair, having earlier impressed under Rodgers’ stewardship at Swansea.
He netted 36 goals from 91 appearances whilst at the Liberty Stadium, helping Swansea seal promotion from the Championship in 2010-11, before cementing their Premier League status the following campaign.
However, Sinclair now has his sights set on breaking into the international side, and becoming part of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the England senior squad.
