Celtic backed to accept £6m+ Giorgos Giakoumakis offer – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has backed Celtic to make more than £6million for Giorgos Giakoumakis.

But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker believes Giakoumakis will stay at Parkhead.

According to the Sun (13 December), the Green and Whites could look for a fee in the region of at least £6m in order to let the 28-year-old leave.

The striker’s contract runs until 2026 but the Parkhead bosses have been attempting to secure him to a longer deal.

Giakoumakis is believed to be unhappy with the offer and talks have stalled.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia, England and Germany are all believed to be keeping a close eye on the forward’s situation.

McAvennie suggested the Hoops could get more than £6m for the Greece international.

The chances he is missing in Europe will go against him,” he told Football Insider.

I think he is a good player and I would suggest that he is more than £6m.

With Peter [Lawwell] going back, he knows the prices of things but I do not think they will sell him.

I think they will keep him and bring someone else in. In today’s world players accept the fact that they are getting left out.

Giakoumakis was on the bench for the Hoops in their 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Saturday (17 December).

He replaced Kyogo Furuhashi for the final 20 minutes of the Green and Whites’ return to competitive action.
