Celtic backed to agree Moritz Jenz deal after ‘unbelievable’ claim – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has backed Mortiz Jenz to sign a permanent Celtic contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said he would like to see Jenz stay at Parkhead beyond his loan deal.

The 23-year-old joined the Celts in the summer on a season-long loan from Lorient that includes an option to buy.

As quoted by the Daily Record (11 December), the centre-backed hailed the Glasgow giants insisting that the club “fascinates the world”.

The German international added that playing for Celtic is “unbelievable”.

When asked if the Green and Whites will offer Jenz a permanent contract, McAvennie told Football Insider:I would think so.

I think he has done well. He is a no nonsense defender. He just does what he says on the tin. He gets the ball and can give it to somebody that can play or gets it up the pitch.

He does not mess about and he is only going to get better. He has been in and out. It is whoever plays with [Cameron] Carter-Vickers at the moment.

I would think Ange has got to strengthen the squad. I would give him a contract. I think he tries to cut out the mistakes. I like defenders to defend, I know the manager does not but I do. So I would like him to stay.

Jenz was an unused substitute in Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Aberdeen on their return to competitive action on Saturday (17 December).

He has made 19 appearances for the Ange Postecoglou’s side across all competitions this season.

In other news, McAvennie has backed Celtic to accept £6m+ Giorgos Giakoumakis offer.
