Rodgers makes bizarre Celtic claim after stalemate v Motherwell, fans will surely disagree

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers made a bizarre statement following the Hoops’ goalless draw against Motherwell – and fans will surely disagree with it.

The Hoops failed to break down a ten man Motherwell for 50 minutes following the first-half sending-off of Cedric Kipre.

Despite dropping two points in the stalemate at Fir Park, Rodgers claimed that he is was “pleased” with the team’s performance on the Hoops’ official Twitter account.

“The guy gets sent off so it changes the dynamic of the game. I was pleased how we worked the ball and our positioning – we stayed really calm, didn’t force it and we just needed to wait for the moments to arrive in good positions” the Hoops boss said.

Fans will surely disagree with Rodgers as the Hoops’ failed to get into the good positions that the manager talked about – most efforts ended up breaking down before getting to the Motherwell penalty box.

Ironically, the best chance for the Hoops came after a rare Motherwell corner, as the Bhoys broke forward at pace but Scott Sinclair dithered when through on goal and his effort was blocked by Richard Tait.

The Hoops have – despite holding a 10 point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand – failed to win four league games in a row this season.

There is a creeping suspicion amongst fans that the team is doing just enough to win games when they count, as results like the one against Motherwell don’t matter in the long run.

With the chance of winning a second consecutive domestic treble the Hoops will have to up their game considerably after the international break, despite what the manager says.
