Celtic bust-up could be real reason for Griffiths exile – pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested there have been behind-the-scenes “problems” between Leigh Griffiths and Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old’s attitude has led to his exile at Parkhead.
As relayed by PLZ Soccer on Thursday (13 January), Ange Postecoglou stated Griffiths, currently on loan at Dundee, “will probably be looking for opportunities elsewhere” this month.
The Australian manager revealed he has the same thinking when it comes to the striker’s future.
Dundee manager James McPake has already confirmed the club are in talks with Celtic about terminating Griffiths’ loan deal early.
Whelan suggested attitude, not ability, is behind the striker’s situation at both Dundee and Celtic.
“He’s served himself well at Celtic,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I think it’s probably down to not his playing ability but other problems that manager and player have had with one another, the standards Postecoglou sets and wants at the football club.
“In other seasons we know he’s come back overweight. He’s probably not been the ideal role model at times. But his playing ability has been fantastic at Celtic.
“Every dream comes to an end. Coming back to Celtic knowing the fact that there’s no door open for you in the first team, you know where you stand with the football club.
“Right now, hopefully, he’ll be looking for another loan move to another club. To be given an opportunity to play football week in, week out and finish his career on a high note.”

Griffiths signed a one-year contract extension at Celtic last summer.
He has scored twice in 14 appearances for Dundee this season.
