Compper on his way to Celtic: This must be Rodgers centre-back pairing after winter break

COMMENT

As Celtic almost fell to pieces in the second-half of the goalless draw against Rangers on Saturday, one of the better performers was that of defender Kristoffer Ajer.

Even though it seems at times he was guilty of losing his man at times, he was one of the few players that stood up to the Rangers attacks and was also attempting to drive forward with the ball.

All in all, Ajer, 19, can be pleased with his performance as with the help of a couple of great saves by Craig Gordon the Hoops kept a clean sheet for the fourth game running, all of which the Norwegian emerging talent has started.

Ajer seems incredibly composed for being such a young player, and managed to keep his cool today whilst other, more experienced players such as Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig played like they were riddled with nerves.

Brendan Rodgers should be looking to use the winter break to pair Ajer up with new signing Marvin Compper.

The time the side spend in Dubai can be used to form the new centre-back partnership and it makes sense to try it out for the first time in the Scottish Cup tie against Brechin in the first game after the winter break.

It wasn’t a memorable performance by the Bhoys today but Ajer can once again hold his head high as he did the job required and helped the Celts to a clean sheet.
