Celtic chiefs ready to sanction attacker deal – report
By Dominic Toner
Celtic could be prepared to allow Michael Duffy to leave the club permanently in January, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim that Irish club Dundalk are interested in the 22-year-old attacker and want to sign him either on loan or permanently.
Duffy is currently on a season-long loan move at Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee, but has struggled to make a major impact.
The report details that Celtic’s chiefs are willing to allow Duffy to join Dunalk on loan and want to recuperate the £100,000 they originally paid for him if he leaves permanently.
Duffy moved to Celtic in February 2015 and could be leaving the club without making a single senior appearances.
The winger spent the 2015/16 campaign at Alloa in the Scottish Championship and was shipped out to Dundee at the beginning of this season.
He has made 13 appearances for Dundee across all competitions, scoring one goals and supplying one assist.
Duffy has been playing a bit-part role and has not featured in the league since the 26 October against Partick.
Football Insider verdict:
Celtic supporters won’t be concerned that Duffy could potentially be leaving the club for good as he has never made a senior appearance for them. The 22-year-old is struggling to get into Dundee’s squad this season and it’s difficult to see how he could have a first-team future with the Bhoys. A switch to Dundalk instead of Dundee may suit him better and give him the opportunity to kickstart his career in the Irish league. Brendan Rodgers already has several talented attackers in his squad and has good competition from places. Scott Sinclair has been the standout wide man since his summer arrival, while Patrick Roberts and James Forrest have also impressed.
