‘Celtic confident of finalising new signing after huge twist’

Celtic are confident of finalising some late transfer business after securing extra finances by qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that he believes Celtic fans “will be looking to see that money reinvested into the side” in the final few days of the window.

The Hoops brought Jota back to Scotland this month on a five-and-a-half-year deal for his second spell at the club, but the Scottish giants are looking to enhance the squad further.

Football Insider revealed Celtic are unlikely to spend heavily in January, but they have gained a financial boost due to their European success in the first half of the campaign.

Brendan Rodgers has lost one of his talismans in Kyogo Furuhashi this month, and Football Insider confirmed he wants to sign a “like-for-like” replacement before the 3 February deadline.

Football Insider also confirmed that Celtic are set to go “all out” to try and sign Brondby star Matthias Kvistgaarden to bolster their attacking options.

Celtic could bring in new faces before the window shuts

“[I’m] very surprised by it because [of] the personnel that’s left the building,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“You can only think that there are plans to bring in and replace in certain areas.

“Are they going to be able to do it in January though? They must be confident they’ve been able to do it if they’ve let those type of players go.

“Celtic, there’s not been a club that have had to sell and you would think they’re in a lot stronger position than Rangers are at the moment.

“Going into that latter stage of the Champions League, it was a huge achievement for them to get there.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers looks dejected

“And whether Brendan Rodgers has seen this as an opportunity, a couple of deals that they couldn’t turn down, the money that they’ve got in.

“But a lot of Celtic fans will be looking to see that money reinvested into the side, because now they’ve got into those knockout stages of the Champions League.”
