Celtic could be making another ‘Jack Hendry’ transfer blunder after source’s reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Celtic outcast Osaze Urhoghide could follow in Jack Hendry’s footsteps after being given the green light to leave Parkhead.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he “feels for” the 21-year-old after a difficult first season with the Bhoys.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (28 March), Celtic are set to let Uroghide leave a year after he joined the club on a free transfer.

The former Sheffield Wednesday youngster moved to KV Oostende on loan in January.

The Belgian outfit have the option to buy the defender outright and a Celtic source told this site he is likely to join another club if they do not trigger the clause.

Hutton insisted Urhoghide needs to use his disappointment as motivation and suggested he could emulate Hendry’s success after leaving Parkhead..

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think a year is long enough. It’s a difficult one because when you are so young, it’s potential. You take a risk on that potential.

“This is what we’re seeing with compensation fees. They’re not that much so you can afford to take the risk. Do I believe a year’s long enough to look at a player? Yes.

“They’ve obviously watched him enough and maybe realised one, he doesn’t quite fit how they want to play or two, it’s just not quite clicked for him. It could be one or the other.

“If he does leave after a year, obviously it’ll be disappointing for him himself. But there’s an opportunity for you to move on and go and prove yourself. Think: ‘You know what, I am good enough. I could have been good enough for Celtic.’

“But at this moment in time, it has just not worked for him. It doesn’t mean it’s the end. It just means it’s closure to that chapter and you move on.

“I feel for him. But I think you have to use it as motivation to go and prove people wrong. Look at Jack Hendry.

“It’s happened and you were talking about millions of pounds worth of transfer fees for him. We’ve seen it happen before and you use this as motivation.”

Hendry joined Oostende from Celtic permanently for a reported £1.75million in 2021 after a successful loan spell.

The Belgian outfit then reportedly sold the Scotland international for £3.5million to Club Brugge in the same transfer window.
