Celtic could sell Jota for ‘£25m’ as exit plan suggested – expert

Celtic could sell Jota for £25million this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie said that although he has heard people talking about Jota joining Ajax, there is no way the Dutch side will spend that much on one player.

The 24-year-old joined the Celts permanently last summer after a successful season-long loan spell in the 2021-22 season where the club regained the Scottish Premiership trophy.

The winger put pen to paper on a five-year deal and cost a reported £6.5m from Benfica after the club triggered their option to buy.

The Portuguese ace is one of the many Celtic names tipped to depart Parkhead this summer and follow former boss Ange Postecoglou south of the border.

McAvennie has floated Ajax as one of the clubs interested in Jota but insisted they won’t pay up.

They are talking about Jota going to Ajax for £25m,” he told Football Insider.

Ajax do not pay that kind of money for players, they sell them for that price.

I do not know where people have got that from but there is no way Ajax will spend £25m on anyone. It will be fun and games in the next couple of weeks to see who is coming in and who is going out.

Jota made 43 appearances for the Celts across all competitions in the 2022-23 season.

He found the back of the net 15 times in those outings whilst also offering up 12 assists.
