Celtic expected 4-2-3-1 v Bayern – Quartet axed as mainstay returns

By James Black

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to make four changes to his starting XI to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Craig Gordon, Jozo Simunovic, Mikael Lustig and captain Scott Brown should return to the side with Dorus de Vries, Nir Bitton, Christian Gamboa and Kouassi Eboue making way in the Hoops’ 4-2-3-1.

The Scottish champions travel to the Allianz Arena after a resounding 3-0 win away to Anderlecht on Matchday 2 and will be hoping to sneak something against Bayern.

Craig Gordon is expected to retake his place between to sticks after sitting out the win over Dundee at the weekend.

Ahead of Gordon, Mikael Lustig and Jozo Simunovic should return to the side to join Dedryck Boyata and Kieran Tierney in the Hoops’ back-four.

Christian Gamboa put in a really impressive performance at right-back against Dundee but it’s unlikely the Costa Rican will retain his place at the expense of Mikael Lustig.

Frenchman Olivier Ntcham is likely to be partnered by the fit-again Scott Brown in central midfield with the attack-minded trio of Patrick Roberts, Callum McGregor and Scott Sinclair in front of them.

With both Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele both fit, Brendan Rodgers will be forced to make a decision over which striker will lead the line and Griffiths is the more likely choice.

The Scotland striker is in good form and Celtic will need everyone to be on top of their games if they are to take anything from their second consecutive away game in the Champions League.
