Celtic expert: Alistair Johnston facing spell on the sidelines – ‘I know…’
Frank McAvennie has suggested Alistair Johnston may be a squad player at Celtic for the remainder of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker claimed Josip Juranovic may stay at Parkhead until the end of the season.
Speculation around the Croatian’s future has been growing during the World Cup.
The 27-year-old has started every game for the national team in their campaign and helped them secure a place in the semi-final with a man of the match performance against Brazil.
As quoted by the Daily Record (11 December), Juranovic is not focusing on the speculation over his future and said he told his agent not to send him anything.
The defender wants to put all his focus into the World Cup ahead of the crunch match against Argentina on Tuesday (13 December) for a place in the final.
But the Hoops have been preparing for the star man’s potential exit.
On 3 December they confirmed the signing of Alistair Johnston from CF Montreal on a five-year deal to provide another option at right-back, alongside Anthony Ralston.
But McAvennie suggested Johnston might have to wait to feature for the Hoops.
“Juranovic could stay until the summer,” he told Football Insider.

“He will be number one and the other guy will come in at the end of the season.
“Then we will sell Juranovic and Johnston will be ready to come into the first team. I know Anthony Ralston will push him all the way as well. That is good for Celtic.“
In other news, McAvennie has claimed Celtic are ‘kicking themselves’ after Moussa Dembele latest.
