Celtic expert ‘baffled’ by Rangers as James Tavernier footage analysed
Frank McAvennie is “baffled” Rangers have gone so long without conceding a penalty in the league.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said he knew the Gers would get a penalty after Hibernian went 1-0 up on Wednesday (8 March).
Last night’s Scottish Premiership game against Hibs marked the 45th league game the Light Blues have played without conceding a penalty.
Last season the Ibrox club were awarded the most penalties in the Scottish top flight, winning ten spot kicks over the course of the season whilst Glasgow rivals Celtic were only awarded seven.
This season Michael Beale’s side have already been awarded nine league penalties, the same as Hearts and Aberdeen, whereas the Hoops have won just four spot kicks with just four games remaining before the split.
As shown on Sky Sports (8 March), the Gers were awarded a penalty following a tackle on Ryan Kent in the box which James Tavernier fired home.
Beale’s side went on to win the game 4-1.
McAvennie couldn’t believe how long the Gers have gone without conceding a spot kick.
“It baffles me,” he told Football Insider.
“I know last night when Hibs went 1-0 up that they would get a penalty.

“They are getting dubious penalties. I know people that have bought a house because they keep betting on Tavernier scoring. It is incredible.
“I do not get it at all. It is what it is but even if they keep winning they will not get anywhere near Celtic.“
