Celtic expert baffled by Rangers fans as ‘crazy’ footage emerges

Frank McAvennie can’t understand how so many Celtic and Rangers fans were allowed to sneak in flares and pyrotechnics to Hampden on Sunday (26 February).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said although it doesn’t affect the players, he was shocked to see the number that made it inside the ground.

In footage shared by the Daily Record (26 February), Celtic and Rangers fans unveiled tifo displays before the start of the game followed by setting off flares within the stands.

Throughout the 90 minutes both sides of fans were setting off flares and fireworks as well as smoke bombs and strobes.

The Celts went on to win the match 2-1 and claim the League Cup trophy for the second time under Ange Postecoglou.

McAvennie was baffled by the number of flares and fireworks set off during the game.

I do not think it impacts the players but I do not know how they get it into the ground,” he told Football Insider.

There were guys with big poles firing them, how did they get those in? It is just crazy, unbelievable – I’m amazed.

I think if you are going to stop that you have to stop people getting stuff into the ground. They are now trying to take over the game and it is both sides.

Some of them were great but some of them were a bit dangerous. You would have thought there would just be a couple getting in but it seemed like a full stand of the stadium all had them.
