Celtic expert claims Hampden should be ‘knocked down’ amid ‘big’ claim
Frank McAvennie has claimed Hampden should be “knocked down” as both Celtic and Rangers were “hampered” by poor conditions.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said it’s “ridiculous” that the quality of the pitch at the national stadium is not high enough.
The playing surface was subject of scathing reviews from players and managers after the League Cup semi-finals were played at Hampden in January.

As quoted by the Daily Record after the 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock (14 January), Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou said he was “disappointed” by the pitch conditions.
Speaking before the final last weekend (22 February), both Postecoglou and Michael Beale noted that the conditions had improved from the semi-final.
The Celts went on to win the final 2-1 and lift the League Cup for the second consecutive season.
But McAvennie insisted the playing surface was still a problem.
“The pitch did not help Celtic,” he told Football Insider.
“I am not saying it is just Celtic, it might have hampered Rangers as well because it was not good.

“It is a big factor for me because football should be played on the grass.
“I think they should take it to Murrayfield or toss a coin between Ibrox and Celtic Park because it is ridiculous that we keep having to talk about the pitch at Hampden. It is an old stadium, go and knock it down and build a new one.“
