Celtic expert issues emphatic Kyogo Furuhashi verdict as bid accepted

Frank McAvennie has insisted Kyogo Furuhashi will continue to be the number one striker at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker suggested that it will be difficult for new signings to oust Kyogo from the starting XI.

The 28-year-old has started all but two Premiership games for the Glasgow giants this season.

The Japan international has scored 17 league goals this season in 20 appearances and averages a goal every 78 minutes.

Kyogo is also the top scorer in the Scottish top flight.

According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph (22 January), the Celts have agreed a £2.5million deal with Suwon Bluewings to sign striker Hyeon-Gyu Oh.

The 21-year-old is believed to have agreed personal terms with the club and will finalise the move this week.

The forward’s current contract with the K League side runs until 2026.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have also been linked with fellow countryman and striker Cho Gue-sung in recent weeks who ultimately opted to stay at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

The Hoops also look set to lose second choice striker Giorgos Giakoumakis in the winter window.

McAvennie insisted Kyogo’s place in the starting XI will remain unchallenged, despite the potential new arrival.

I still think Kyogo is the best,” he told Football Insider.

He gives you so much more. The days of roughing up players are done, there are games for that but Kyogo just runs away from players.

His movement gives so much space to the midfield players to do their stuff. That is why he is number one.
