Celtic expert names Rangers ‘signing of the summer’ amid McGregor claim

Jack Butland has been the signing of the summer for Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie compared Butland to Allan McGregor and Andy Goram in his level of importance for the club.

Michael Beale made nine new signings this summer adding Butland between the sticks as well as heavily strengthening forward areas with the arrivals of Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Abdallah Sima.

Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell, and Leon Balogun also joined the ranks this summer.

Butland has started every game for the Gers so far this season across all competitions and has kept two clean sheets.

When asked if Butland has been the best summer signing for the Gers, McAvennie told Football Insider:Without a doubt.

I said a couple of years ago that [Allan] McGregor was the best signing they made and it was proven, he saved them so many points and Butland will do that as well. That is what happens when you buy a good keeper.

Rangers

Sometimes I have watched Celtic when they have been rubbish and Joe [Hart] has done that and pulled out some brilliant saves and got us the win when they really should not have won and Butland is doing that for Rangers now. McGregor did it for years and before him it was Andy Goram.

The thing about playing for Rangers or Celtic is that you are not going to be under pressure for a long period of time then all of a sudden you have to be ready so you need to be on alert when and if you are called upon.

In other news, Rangers set for £25m+ payout – £4.3m already heading to Ibrox.
