Celtic expert shares verdict on Graham Potter appointment after source’s reveal

Graham Potter doesn’t want to join Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie insisted managers like Potter are “out of the picture” for the vacant manager’s job at Parkhead.

The former Chelsea boss has been out of work since being sacked by the London club earlier this season and is one of the names that has been linked with replacing Postecoglou.

On 9 June, Football Insider revealed that the 48-year-old rejected an approach from Leicester City to take over at the helm for next season.

Potter is believed to be keen to return to top-level management after taking a short break at the end of the 2022-23 campaign following his exit from Stamford Bridge but opted against the top job at the King Power Stadium.

The Hoops are in search of a new manager to replace the vacancy left by Ange Postecoglou after it was confirmed he would be taking over at Tottenham.

Last week (5 June), sources told this site that the Celts have begun their search for a new manager and are drawing up a shortlist of candidates to carry on Postecoglou’s hugely impressive work.

McAvennie doesn’t think Potter is the man for the job.

They are talking about Potter coming up here, I don’t see it happening,” he told Football Insider.

Celtic

He is not going to take a cut on what he was getting at Chelsea to sign with Celtic.

I would take managers like him out of the picture, they are not going to come up here but it is going to be somebody that is already out of a job.
