Celtic expert slams ’embarrassing’ development as Daizen Maeda footage emerges

Frank McAvennie can’t understand the “incompetence” of the linesman when Celtic faced Hearts on Wednesday (8 March).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said he understands “conspiracy” claims after what he saw last night (8 March).

As shown on Sky Sports (8 March), Daizen Maeda had the in the back of the net for the Celts before the linesman raised his flag, despite replays showing the attacker to be onside.

VAR official Nick Walsh carried out a lengthy check before allowing the equaliser and the Hoops went on to win the game 3-1 thanks to further goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Sead Haksabanovic.

McAvennie couldn’t believe the error made by the officials.

You can understand when things like that happen all these conspiracy claims,” he told Football Insider.

You start to question why. If there was no VAR that goal would not have counted and he was a yard onside. It is crazy.

People like that should not be referees or linesmen, that is just incompetence. There is no other word for it, it is just embarrassing.

People make mistakes but that was not even close. He was a yard onside so why he was flagged I do not know.
