Celtic expert suggests Postecoglou doesn’t want Kennedy at Tottenham after confirmed news

Ange Postecoglou does not want to take his former Celtic assistant John Kennedy to Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie suggested Kennedy is only staying at Parkhead because he didn’t have the option to move on.

Following Postecoglou’s departure for the Premier League, the Celts confirmed that Brendan Rodgers would be returning to Glasgow to take over as manager.

Despite speculation over Kennedy’s future in recent weeks as Postecoglou moved south, the club confirmed that the assistant manager will be staying on at the club, alongside the rest of the coaching staff that were in charge under the former boss.

Speaking to club media after his appointment (19 June), Rodgers said he wanted Kennedy to be part of his team as he returns to the Scottish champions and insisted he will be very important moving forward.

Kennedy joined the Hoops as a scout in 2010 and has spent over ten years within the club’s hierarchy.

McAvennie suggested the 39-year-old may not have had the option to move down south.

I do not know if he has been offered the job at Tottenham,” he told Football Insider.

Ange came over to Celtic on his own and there are good coaches down there. He will keep Ryan Mason on because he knows the club.

That is what he did with John Kennedy and I think he made him a better coach. I do not think it will take long for the coaches to understand what he wants to do.
