Euro club join Celtic in hunt for 22-year-old PL attacker – report
By Matt Bullin
Real Sociedad have joined Celtic in the hunt for Manchester United flop Adnan Januzaj, according to a report.
A Daily Mail report claims the Glasgow giants are interested in signing the 22-year-old attacker, who is also on Marseille’s radar.
The young Belgian spent the 2016-17 season on loan from United at Sunderland, where he failed to impress.
He only made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats, which yielded just one goal and three assists.
Januzaj also disappointed during the 2015-16 season which saw him ply his trade at Borussia Dortmund, but he only played 12 league and cup games while at the club.
The 22-year-old made the step up into United’s first team in the summer of 2013 with much promise, and he enjoyed a sensational first campaign, but since then he has failed to make an impact.
Football Insider verdict
Januzaj has failed to impress in the last four seasons and he has not showed any signs of reigniting the form he showed for United in the 2013-14 campaign. It is difficult to see why Rodgers would take a risk on Januzaj when he already has better, more consistent players in his squad. However, he is still only 22 and has bags of untapped potential, so if Rodgers truly believes he can mould the youngster into something special it may be worth taking a punt on him – if he is available for a cut-price fee.
