‘Celtic fans are laughing’ at Rangers amid ‘bankrupt’ claim – expert
Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic are “laughing” at Rangers as they close in on their trophy haul.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker doesn’t understand how the Gers can claim having so many trophies.
As relayed by footballscotland (27 February), the Celts could move within one trophy of equalling their Glasgow rivals’ overall haul if they complete a treble this season.
Following their 2-1 defeat of the Light Blues in the League Cup final on Sunday (26 February), the Hoops have now won 114 trophies, just three behind Rangers’ 117.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with just 12 games to go and should, barring a major catastrophe, add another trophy to their collection at the end of the season.
The Hoops are still in the Scottish Cup and face Hearts in the sixth round of the competition on 11 March.
But McAvennie has suggested Celtic are already a more successful club.
“How can you win 55 titles in 12 years? It is a different club,” he told Football Insider.
“They have won all these trophies, that is in the past now. This is a new team, a new name. It is the same stadium and everything but if you go bankrupt you go bankrupt. I do not know how they have done it.

“Celtic supporters are just laughing at all that. Of course you want to beat your biggest rivals.
“I think Rangers are a couple of years behind at the moment. I think they made a mistake with the manager. Michael Beale is a coach, and a pretty good one I have heard, but that does not make you a good manager.“
