Celtic fans linking cricket row to Rangers proves how crazy Scottish football is

COMMENT

Celtic fans have somehow managed to link the ongoing ball-tampering row involving Australian cricket to Rangers – and it shows how absolutely bonkers Scottish football has become over the last six years.

Two Australian cricketers, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft, have been found ball tampering during a match, as reported by BBC Sport, and somehow Celtic fans have managed to make it about Rangers and the Scottish FA.

After spending much of the weekend outraged by the colour of shirt a team of Gers legends wore in a charity match at Ibrox on Saturday, the Hoops faithful have now found the latest thing to get their teeth into and cry foul.

Most reasonable fans will find the whole thing absolutely crazy and see how ridiculous the entire thing makes the wider Celtic support – and Scottish football by extension – look.

There’s few – if any – fanbases in the world who spend so much time agonising over every tiny thing that goes on at a rival club and somehow manages to find some sort of anti-Celtic conspiracy around every turn.

Whether it is English language adverts taken out in French language newspapers in Switzerland, crowd-funding in an attempt to have a judicial review into the Scottish FA’s handling of the Gers’ financial meltdown or writing books and making movies about the Ibrox giants, there’s something quite sinister behind the continued attempts at decrying everything the Gers do.
