Celtic fans react on Twitter to McGregor display in triumph against Rosenborg
By Harry Sykes
Callum McGregor was recalled to the Celtic starting line-up for their 1-0 Champions League victory over Rosenborg on Wednesday night – and fans took to Twitter to praise his display.
Brendan Rodgers’ side took a big step towards Champions League football for the second successive season by overcoming the Norwegian side with a narrow win in Trondheim.
McGregor, who had been omitted from the Hoops team for the goalless draw in the first leg at Parkhead last week, was given the nod to start the return clash ahead of the benched Olivier Ntcham.
The 24-year-old responded with a controlled display alongside Scott Brown in the middle of the park as James Forrest’s outstanding strike from a tight angle saw off a dogged Rosenborg side to secure Celtic’s place in the Champions League play-off round.
Celtic fans were waxed lyrical about the performance of McGregor as they made their feelings known on social media.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Celtic’s triumph means they are now just 180 minutes away from securing a place in the lucrative Champions League group stages.
McGregor will hope he retains his place in the starting XI for his side’s Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts on Saturday.
