‘I’m walking out’ – Celtic fans rage after 36-year-old starts v Dundee

By James Black

Celtic take on Dundee this afternoon in the Scottish Premiership and Brendan Rodgers has surprised everyone by starting goalkeeper Dorus De Vries – with one fan threatening to “walk out.”

The 36-year-old hasn’t played since being beaten from 45 yards in a game against Kilmarnock over a year ago so the decision to bring him in has left Celtic fans scratching their heads.

The Hoops travel to face Bayern Munich in midweek in the Champions League before taking on Hibs in the League Cup semi-final but Gordon’s shouldn’t really need a rest given he is a goalkeeper.

A win for the Scottish champions would see them extend their unbeaten domestic run to 59 games.

De Vries is one of seven changes from the side which drew 2-2 with Hibs before the international break, as confirmed by the Hoops’ official Twitter account.

Christian Gamboa, Eboue Kouassi, Patrick Roberts, Scott Sinclair, Nir Bitton, Leigh Griffiths and De Vries all come in for Craig Gordon, Mikael Lustig, James Forrest, Tom Rogic, Johnny Hayes, Odsonne Edouard and Moussa Dembele.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have already faced Dundee this season – coming out 4-0 winners in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final at Dens Park.

In other Celtic transfer news, the club are joint favourites to sign a left-footed midfield creator who has demolished the Hoops in the past.
