‘Gutted’, ‘Heart broken’ – Celtic fans react as yet another winger injury blow is confirmed
Celtic supporters have taken to social media to express sympathy for winger Jonny Hayes.
The Irish international was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg he suffered in the 2-0 Boxing Day victory over Dundee.
The Scottish champions announced the severity of the injury on their official Twitter account and the player has already had surgery on his leg.
The attacker had just managed to break into the side following his summer transfer from Aberdeen and had recently scored his first goal for the Hoops in the 3-0 win over his former side.
Fans have rallied around the winger since he suffered the horror injury, with one suggesting that he use Bhoys legend Henrik Larsson, who also suffered a severe leg injury as an inspiration.
Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter to Hayes’ plight:
Hayes is not the only winger to be injured as he joins Patrick Roberts on the injury list at Celtic Park, with the on-loan Manchester City star also expected to be out for months.
In the meantime, the injury to Hayes gives Michael Johnston the chance to impress Brendan Rodgers, the 19-year-old replaced Hayes in the win over Dundee, whilst Scott Sinclair will return to the starting line-up for the upcoming Old Firm derby against Rangers.
