Celtic fans react on Twitter as van Dijk completes Liverpool switch
Celtic supporters have taken to social media to react to the news that the club is set to receive millions of pounds from Virgil van Dijk’s transfer from Southampton to Liverpool.
The former Bhoys centre-back is set to join Liverpool on the 1st of January for £75 million, with is widely reported that the Hoops set to earn around £7million from a sell-on clause they inserted in the Dutchman’s move to Southampton in 2015.
Some fans are now hoping that the Hoops will use the money to make some big signings in the January transfer window.
Here are some of the best reactions to the van Dijk transfer on Twitter:
Van Dijk spent two seasons with the Hoops after joining from Groningen in 2013 for around £2.6 million.
He won two league titles and was part of the team which reached the last 32 of the Europa League under former manager Ronny Deila.
He was very highly-rated in his brief spell with the Hoops, being named in the Scottish Premiership team of the season in both of the seasons he spent in Glasgow.
He left to join Southampton following Celtic’s failure to qualify for the Champions League group stages in 2015, the English Premier League side paying £13million for the centre-back.
