Celtic fans told to ‘get excited’ about Maeda as more signings completed – Kenny

Paddy Kenny has told Celtic fans to get excited after the club confirmed the capture of Daizen Maida.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider,
can’t wait to see the striker in action.

On Friday (31 January) Celtic confirmed the signings of Maeda from Yokohama F. Marinos, Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka and Reo Hatate from Kawasaki Frontale

Maeda has previously worked with Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama and has scored nine goals in his last 11 outings for the side.

He follows in the footsteps of fellow Japan player Kyogo Furuhashi, who joined the Hoops last summer (2021).

After Furuhashi scored 16 goals in his first 26 goals for Celtic, Kenny has told fans to get excited.

“It’s time to get excited,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“When I saw that return of nine in 11, I thought ‘wow’. That’s something to be excited about.

“Obviously we know Postecoglou knows these leagues and it will be interesting to see how he and the other lads get on in Scotland.

“We know there is not that much of a difference between the leagues, look at Furuhashi.

“If Maeda can go over there and score goals at the same rate he has done in Japan then that’s only good news for Celtic.

“It’s nice to see them get their business done early, it’s a real statement of intent.”
