Celtic fans want Ange Postecoglou return after sack latest – Keith Wyness

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Celtic fans would push for the club to re-appoint Ange Postecoglou if he is sacked at Tottenham.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted Brendan Rodgers is doing a good job after replacing the “unique and refreshing character” at Parkhead.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (28 October) that Tottenham supporters believe Postecoglou could be the next Premier League manager to be fired after Erik ten Hag lost his job.

The reaction came in the wake of a disappointing loss against Crystal Palace, but Spurs have since beaten Man City to reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

Postecoglou spent two trophy-laden seasons at Celtic between 2021 and 2023, winning 83 of his 113 games in charge at Parkhead.

Celtic fans will want Postecoglou back as Tottenham pressure grows, says Wyness

Rodgers was appointed to replace the Australian and won a domestic double in his first season back in Glasgow.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The fans would rather have Ange back, I think.

“There was a real love affair going on.

“But Rodgers is in place and keeping things moving. As long as their winning, and they are, then he’s still well respected.

“It will be hard for Ange to go back even if he is sacked at Tottenham.

“There was a unique love affair there. He was a unique and refreshing character in the Scottish game.

“As long as Brendan keeps winning, then he’s doing okay.”
