Celtic flop could yet be handed another chance after shock transfer report

COMMENT

It seemed like Dorus de Vries’ Celtic career was all but over when the Hoops signed number two goalkeeper Scott Bain to a permanent deal.

However some shock transfer news could see the Dutchman stay with the Bhoys for a while yet.

The Scottish Sun is reporting that Craig Gordon is a target for Manchester United, and he is on the shortlist to be back-up to David de Gea.

Naturally it is all just rumour at the moment, but if Gordon departs the Hoops this summer than Bain will become the new number one, and de Vries will become the back-up.

That would probably concern most fans, as de Vries has been a flop since joining the Hoops two years ago.

His bad games have far outnumbered his good ones, most recently in the Europa League defeat to Zenit where he was particularly insipid.

Such is the bizarre nature of football though, that should Gordon leave there is no way that de Vries would be let go by the Hoops.

The Hoops’ current fourth choice keeper Conor Hazard is lacking the experience that de Vries has, and Brendan Rodgers does seem to rate him despite his frequent errors.

It is extremely unlikely that de Vries will ever become the Hoops number one goalkeeper again, but his career with the Hoops could be given an unexpected shot in the arm if Gordon leaves.
