Celtic handed ‘big’ boost after Tom Rogic and James Forrest updates – Scottish pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted David Turnbull’s return is a “welcome” boost for Celtic with both James Forrest and Tom Rogic injured.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender admitted it was “good timing” for the 22-year-old to step back onto the pitch with other creative talents out of action.

Turnbull returned for the final 16 minutes of Saturday’s 4-0 win over Ross County after missing three months with a hamstring injury.

However, Forrest missed the win due to a knock, while Rogic went off early after Kayne Ramsey’s tackle, the defender sent off for the incident.

Hutton insisted Turnbull’s return would be a big boost for the Hoops.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Last season, before the transformation of Celtic under Postecoglou, we were talking about how Celtic need to build a team around Turnbull.

“So for him to be missing for such a long time, of course he’ll be welcomed back in. It’s a good time when you think of them going for the league and the Scottish Cup as well.

“They’ll want their big players fit. They’re obviously missing James Forrest now, he got injured in the Dundee United game.

“So it’s probably a welcome comeback for him. Rogic as well could be out for a while so it’s good to see him back. All the Celtic fans will be happy because they know what he’s capable of. It’s good timing too.”

Despite his lengthy layoff, Turnbull has already played 35 times across all competitions this season.

He scored nine goals and contributed seven assists before being sidelined.
