Celtic handed yet another winger injury blow – confirmed

Celtic will have to deal with another long-term injury problem as it has been confirmed that Jonny Hayes has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.

The announcement was made regarding the Irish international’s fitness on the Hoops’ official website on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury in the 2-0 win over Dundee, after an accidental clash with Josh Meekings.

The injury is dreadful news for the player, who has just begun to establish himself in the Hoops first-team following his £1million summer move from Aberdeen.

He had just scored his first goal for the Hoops in the recent 3-0 win against his former side and looked set to have an extended run in the first-team.

The winger joins another player in a similar position on the sidelines, on-loan Celt Patrick Roberts, who has been ruled out of action until March at the earliest with a hamstring injury.

The injuries to Roberts and Hayes may give a chance to 19-year-old Michael Johnston, who replaced Hayes in the match against Dundee, and did reasonably well.

As for the immediate future, it seems certain that Scott Sinclair will return to the starting line-up for the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Celtic Park on Saturday, and will be joined on the wings by the in-form James Forrest.
