Celtic have ‘big advantage’ over Rangers after ‘huge’ development – Hoops idol

Celtic have the advantage over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Old Firm sides were drawn against each other in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

That game takes place at Hampden Park on 17 April with the winner set to face either Hearts or Hibs in the final.

However, due to their progression in the Europa League, Rangers play the second leg of their quarter-final against Braga three days before their game against Celtic.

McAvennie insists this will play right into Ange Postecoglou’s hands.

“I was saying this a few weeks ago,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“So that game against Rangers in the cup, they are playing in Europe a few days before after their huge win over Red Star.

“I was hoping they would be playing away that game so they have so travelling to do as well.

“But they will need their strongest team to get through in Europe, that means they will be knackered when they play Celtic.

“This is what I have been saying. We will be fully rested because we aren’t in Europe anymore.

“I genuinely think we have the upper hand here. The same goes for when we play them in the league.

“To be honest, I was a bit disappointed when we got knocked out of the Conference but it’s turned out to work quite well for us.

“I think we have a big advantage going into that game, honestly.”

Rangers and Celtic both have one Old Firm win to their name this season.

Because of the Scottish Cup draw, they will face each other three times in April.

In other news, Frank McAvennie has revealed the ‘brilliant’ thing Callum McGregor told him yesterday on the golf course.
