Celtic news: Kieran Maguire issues £130m reveal as Hoops business plan ‘executed perfectly’

The latest set of Celtic accounts demonstrates that they have executed their player trading plan to perfection in recent years.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops’ report for the final six months of 2021.

The interim figures, which were released last Saturday (12 February) showcased a pre-tax profit of £27.6million.

Revenue was supercharged by the sales of Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard and totalled £52.9m, a £40.7m boost on the same period last year.

Kieran Tierney, Moussa Dembele, Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forest have also left for big money in recent years.

Maguire hailed Celtic’s business model and revealed that they have raked in £130m in profit from player sales in the last decade.

“Very impressive results all round,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It shows the importance of matchday income, which has been as high as 50 per cent of total revenue in previous years.

“There has been reasonably good cost control as well. Over the course of the last decade, they have had in excess of £130m from player sales.

“Player development and selling is part of the Celtic business plan. They have executed that to perfection and this is evidence to back that up.”
