Celtic have signed Carl Starfelt replacement after deal agreed – expert

Celtic will announce more signings soon after confirming three new arrivals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie suggested two of the three signings were in the pipeline before Brendan Rodgers returned to Parkhead.

The Celts confirmed (24 July) the signing of South Korean pair Jyunjun Yang and Kyeokkyu Kwon on five year deals.

The Scottish champions also announced (26 July) the arrival of Polish defender Maik Nawrocki who also put pen to paper on a five year contract.

He joins Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Stephen Welsh, Yuki Kobayashi and Liam Scales as Rodgers’ centre-back options.

Whilst McAvennie is pleased about the new arrivals, he doesn’t think they were all masterminded by Rodgers.

I have got a feeling they might have been in the pipeline and Brendan has okayed it,” he told Football Insider.

I would imagine Nawrocki might be Brendan’s signing, I think he is the kind of player that Brendan likes.

I am delighted that they have brought them in but I would have liked them to have been in before the trip to Japan and get them all blended together.

I wouldn’t imagine they will be the last, I think there will be others coming in.

Nawrocki looks a good centre-half so I think it will be him and Carter-Vickers and the rest will be fighting for a place.

I have always thought we needed another good centre-half because the others are not consistent enough.
