Celtic have upper hand in Rangers title race after news in last 24 hours – Mills

Danny Mills has claimed the January transfer window can be the turning point in the title race and Celtic can overhaul Rangers’ six-point lead.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England right-back delivered his verdict after an update on Celtic’s transfer plans.

A club source told Football Insider on Tuesday (12 January) they are close to turning Jota’s loan deal into a permanent one and want to add another wide forward before the window shuts.

As quoted by Sky Sports yesterday (13 January), Ange Postecoglou insisted that no other offers have been made.

The Hoops have already added Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate at the start of the transfer window.

In contrast, Rangers have lost hot prospect Nathan Patterson and only added utility player James Sands from New York City.

Asked whether the transfer window can be the turning point for the Hoops in the title race, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely.

“When you’ve got to play each other a few more times it’s not a huge difference. There’s no reason why they can’t overhaul that difference.

“If you win a couple of those then you might get ahead with other results. There’s every chance they can overturn that if they can build up some confidence and go on a run.

“Everyone wants it to be competitive, it’s no fun when one team just runs away with it.”

Celtic

Celtic host Rangers in the second Old Firm derby of the season at the beginning of next month (2 February).

The Hoops return to league action against Hibs on Monday (17 February) while Rangers travel to Aberdeen the next day.
