Celtic hero: Allan McGregor is ‘biggest Rangers signing in last 10 years’

Frank McAvennie can’t understand recent criticism aimed at Rangers stopper Allan McGregor.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the 40-year-old is the best signing the Gers have made in a decade.

McGregor dazzled as Rangers progressed in the Europa League despite losing to Red Star Belgrade on Thursday (17 March).

He made a total of 11 saves (WhoScored) to help the Gers progress 4-2 on aggregate.

McAvennie was recently left baffled after hearing some pundits calling for McGregor to be dropped.

“The biggest player Rangers have bought in the last 10 years in McGregor,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Again, he was outstanding the other night. There were some pundits talking about him a few weeks ago.

“They were going on about these mistakes and how he should be dropped, I was sat there just thinking ‘what, seriously?’, that was just ridiculous.

“Goalkeepers have to take the responsibility for every goal, that’s the problem.

“He’s the last man so even if the defender gives the ball away, if the ball goes into the net it’s the keeper’s fault.

“But McGregor, he’s an incredible keeper and he plays like a young man.

“I don’t understand the criticism because some of the saves he’s made this season have been outrageous.”

Rangers

McGregor returned to Ibrox for a second spell with the club in May 2018.

He has now made 431 total appearances for the Light Blues during his career.

In other news, pundit claims Ibrox hero is the “biggest problem” at Rangers now.
