Celtic idol: Ange Postecoglou ‘delighted’ after Kyogo Furuhashi development

Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic will welcome Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate’s being rested by Japan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Ange Postecoglou will be “delighted” that the duo are having a break ahead of Saturday’s visit of Motherwell.

Hatate and Kyogo were both left out of the Japan XI that took on the USA on 23 September.

Kyogo was an unused substitute while Hatate did not feature in the matchday squad.

As quoted by FootballScotland (23 September), Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu said there is “always competition” for a place in the squad.

Kyogo picked up a shoulder injury in Celtic’s game against Rangers earlier in the month and had a brief spell on the sidelines.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will look to get back to winning ways this Saturday after a 2-0 loss at St Mirren last time out (18 September).

When asked if Postecoglou would be pleased the duo didn’t feature for Japan against the USA, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Yeah I think so.

Celtic

I think Kyogo needs games, I think that’s why he played him against St Mirren because that would’ve been ideal for [Giorgos] Giakoumakis to come in. You can train as hard as you want but you need the fitness of playing games.

He’ll [Postecoglou] be delighted but it’s a hell of a journey. The travelling won’t be too much for them but as a Celtic supporter I’m glad the two of them got rested because it’s good for Celtic.
