Celtic idol ‘delighted’ after ‘huge’ development – ‘Man United don’t have that’

Frank McAvennie “is delighted” Celtic will be able to show the majority of their Premier League games in Japan next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker said the development “is huge” and suggested not even Man United get as many games shown in Japan.

Football Scotland reported (17 July) that Japanese football streaming service SPOTV NOW have reached an agreement with the SPFL for the 2022-23 campaign.

The deal will be centred around showing the majority of the Parkhead club’s games to audiences in Asia.

The Bhoys’ popularity in the Far East has increased since Ange Postecoglou left the J-League last summer to join the Glasgow club and signed numerous players from the division.

When asked for his assessment of the news, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Celtic has a support everywhere.

I would’ve thought they would have done something in Japan but I never would’ve thought it would be as big as to get every game shown.

I thought they’d sell a lot of jerseys, merchandise, the usual. But to get so many games shown is huge. I don’t even think Man United and Liverpool have got that.

Celtic

I’m delighted for Celtic, it’s great for the club moving forward so I’m delighted for them.

It’s great for the players going back home, even though they’re already superstars there, they’ll be heralded when they go back to Japan.
