Celtic idol hits back over Ange Postecoglou row
Frank McAvennie has told Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes to focus on his own team instead of “picking on” Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said he understands McInnes’ criticism of the refereeing in Scotland.
As quoted by footballscotland (19 March), McInnes called out Postecoglou in his post match press conference following his side’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone (18 March).
The Killie boss was frustrated by the Postecoglou’s complaints that his side “get nothing” from VAR when McInnes feels his side really have had “zilch” from the officials.
As shown by the SPFL (19 March), the Celts had a penalty decision overturned in their 3-1 victory over Hibernian following a challenge on Liel Abada.
Referee Steven McLean’s decision to award a spot kick was overturned following a VAR check.
When asked if McInnes’ comments may have just been jealousy over Postecoglou’s success, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think what Derek meant is that a point does not mean anything to Celtic but one or two points down the bottom is important.

“The referees are getting worse. Abada ran through the middle and fell over and it took them four and a half minutes to realise that it was not a foul.
“But McInnes should not be mentioning or picking on anybody, he should be focused on his own team.“
