Celtic idol reveals Callum McGregor ‘worry’ after injury latest

Frank McAvennie is no longer worried about Callum McGregor’s absence at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Ange Postecoglou’s side have finally “kicked on” after an “awful” 2-0 defeat to St Mirren last month (18 September).

McGregor was forced off during the Celts’ 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig in Germany (5 October).

As quoted by Glasgow Live (18 October), Postecoglou confirmed that the 29-year-old is still “weeks away” from a return to action.

The Green and Whites have won twice this week in the absence of the centre-midfielder.

A convincing victory over Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup was followed up with a 4-3 win at Hearts on Saturday (22 October).

McAvennie has been delighted with how the Hoops have kicked on since the loss to St Mirren and McGregor’s injury.

I will say it as it is, against St Mirren they were awful, they looked like amateurs,” he told Football Insider.

I was a wee bit worried with McGregor being out for the first couple of games but they have kicked on now.

They are back to scoring goals, and scoring a lot of goals.

Now they are in the semi-final against Kilmarnock, they should win that, get to another final. Great for the fans, great for the players, great for the manager.

McGregor had featured in 12 games across all competitions for Celtic before picking up his injury.
