Celtic idol slams ‘prime suspect’ Daizen Maeda amid ‘incredible’ claim
Frank McAvennie has slammed Daizen Maeda and his Celtic teammates for not taking their chances against RB Leipzig.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said it was “incredible” how many opportunities Ange Postecoglou’s side squandered.
Against the Bundesliga side, as revealed by SofaScore (11 October), the Celts had 13 shots inside the box compared to Leipzig’s 13 shots overall.
The Glasgow club also created five big chances while Leipzig created four.
Postecoglou’s side went on to lose the game 2-0, knocking them out of the Champions League and harming their chances of European football after Christmas.
After four Champions League matches, the Green and Whites have a goal conversion rate of four per cent in the competition.
McAvennie insisted there were several players to blame for the lack of goals scored.
“It is not just the one player that is missing them but Maeda is the prime suspect because he has missed a few,” he told Football Insider.
“But [Giorgios] Giakoumakis, Kyogo [Furuhashi], [Liel] Abada, they are all missing chances.
“It could have been a different story but I will take it. The defence is still a work in progress.

“The amount of clear-cut chances we created, it was incredible how they missed them. Timo Werner could not hit a barn door in England and all of a sudden he gets it in to the net.
“That is the difference between where we are and where we want to be.“
