Celtic in ‘pole position’ after ‘awful’ Rangers development – pundit
Celtic are in “pole position” to win the double this season due to Rangers’ “awful” form.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson was adamant that the Hoops are “without a doubt” favourites to best their Old Firm rivals in the final two remaining competitions.
The Gers have managed just one victory in their last five league games, their 3-1 win against Hibernian last month (30 March), which has allowed Brendan Rodgers’ side to take a three-point lead at the top of the table.
After the Ibrox side lifted the League Cup back in December, both clubs won their Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park this weekend to secure an Old Firm clash in the final.
Celtic ‘without doubt’ favourites to win league and cup – Robinson
However, while Robinson admitted that Rangers look like a much stronger side under Philippe Clement, he still backed the Hoops to continue their momentum and kill any hopes of their rivals winning a domestic treble.
“Celtic are in better stead to win the double without a doubt,” he told the Insider Track podcast.
“Rangers have had just one win in their last five games.
“Clement has come under some criticism from the fans for the first time with bad results against Dundee and Ross County.
“They’re in awful form at the moment, other than their win in the semi-final against Hearts.
“For me, with Celtic being three points clear with five games to go, they’re favourites.
“They have Dundee on the weekend – their last win against Celtic at Dens Park was in 1998!
“Celtic have beaten them 7-1 already this season, so you would fancy Celtic to get three more points.

“It would put them in pole position in the league.
“But Rangers have been a different proposition since Clement has come in and they’ve given themselves every opportunity.”
