Celtic are lining up a move for Levante’s Mathew Ryan as they look to make him their number one goalkeeper next season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bhoys have decided that they want another experienced figure to be their first-choice option between the posts next term, and the former Brighton man is seen as an ideal candidate.

The Glasgow giants have got the Australian firmly “on their radar” ahead of the upcoming window, but sources say that no contact has yet been made between them and Levante.

Ryan is out of contract with the La Liga side at the end of the season, although they do hold the option to extend that deal by a further year.

A new goalkeeper is one of Celtic’s top transfer priorities for the summer window, and they are hopeful that Ryan could be their man.

Ryan has kept six clean sheets for Levante this season, but they are still staring down the barrel of a potential relegation into the Spanish second tier.

They are currently four points adrift of safety in La Liga with just seven games of their league season still to play, and the shot-stopper is set to play a key role in their continued fight for survival.

Celtic have made their interest in the veteran clear in the final stages of the campaign, but Levante are ready to ensure that they do not lose him without a fight.

Luis Castro’s side are keen to keep hold of their number one if at all possible this summer, although the uncertainty surrounding their league position creates an added issue for them.

Celtic’s need is clear, with Kasper Schmeichel expected to depart at the end of the season, and they are adamant that a new starter will be sourced.

Viljami Sinisalo has done a capable job covering amid Schmeichel’s injury lay-off in recent weeks, but he looks set to play second fiddle once again next term.

Celtic could lose Benjamin Nygren to the Premier League

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren has his heart set on a move to the Premier League this summer.

The Swedish midfielder has starred for Martin O’Neill’s side with 15 goals and five assists in the Scottish Premiership so far this term, and he is now attracting interest south of the border.

Celtic are under “no pressure” to sell the 24-year-old ahead of next season, but could consider a sale if a big-money offer was put on the table.

Nygren is keen to test himself at the top level as soon as possible, and he sees a switch to the Premier League as the natural next step in order to do so.

Celtic paid a fee of around £2million to sign him from Nordsjaelland last summer, but they could already be set for a huge return on that investment.
