Celtic may seal ‘massively important’ Carter-Vickers deal ‘early’ in January – expert

Alan Hutton has claimed Celtic could pull off a “massively important” deal next month by signing Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently from Tottenham.

The former Rangers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old would benefit greatly from a permanent move to Parkhead.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun on Saturday (25 December), Ange Postecoglou confirmed he wants to tie Carter-Vickers down next month after joining on an initial loan this summer.

The Australian boss revealed he initially tried to sign the defender permanently but time restraints meant a loan was agreed.

Hutton suggested Carter-Vickers would jump at the chance to call Celtic Park home.

He insisted a permanent deal would allow the centre-back to focus solely on his performances.

“I think for a footballer, it’s massively important just to feel steady within your life in general,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“You sign a long-term contract, you know where your futures at. You can just concentrate solely on football, you’re never really looking over your shoulder.

“There’s no thinking what’s going to happen next? Where am I going to be? That uncertainty normally leads to your performances on the pitch.

“It’s taken a little time for him to settle and that’s understandable. He has not played a lot of football. I think we’re starting to see consistent performances from him.

“He’d be a good signing for them. Get this done early, just let him concentrate his football. I think it will be good for everybody.”

Celtic

Carter Vickers has played 23 times for Celtic since joining on loan.

That is 18 more appearances than he has made for Spurs.
