Celtic must revisit move for attacker who pulled the strings in Edinburgh derby
COMMENT
The performance of Hibernian midfielder John McGinn in Friday’s Edinburgh derby would have been of great interest to any Celtic fans who were watching the game.
The 23-year-old midfielder pulled the strings in midfield as Neil Lennon’s side comfortably won 2-0. The player’s best moment of the game was a sensational cross-field pass to Jamie MacLaren, who smashed a shot against the bar.
His all-round performance was excellent though, and showed why Brendan Rodgers must make a move for a player who seems like a natural replacement for Scott Brown.
McGinn, who was linked with the Hoops in January, as reported by the Daily Mail, has impressed hugely in Hibernian’s return to the Scottish Premiership, so much so that he earned his first Scotland call-up.
His performances against Celtic have been excellent too, scoring a double in a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park and then being involved in a combative duel in a 2-2 at Easter Road in December.
At 32-years-old, Brown isn’t getting any younger and it is unlikely that he will be able to keep up his levels of performance for that much longer.
McGinn, if he signs for the Hoops, could be a mainstay of the side for years to come, and could seamlessly replace Brown in a transition which would benefit both players.
