Celtic news: Albian Ajeti unlikely to play for club ever again – McAvennie

Albian Ajeti may have played his last game for Celtic with Georgios Giakoumakis and Daizen Maeda continuing to impress.

That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the striker’s lack of game time.

Ajeti, 24, has missed Celtic’s last 14 games in all competitions with a hamstring injury.

In his absence, Maeda and Giakoumakis have found their best form with the latter bagging a hattrick against Dundee on Sunday (20 February).

With Kyogo Furuhashi also on his way back from injury, McAvennie admits he can’t see Ajeti getting any more minutes for the club.

“I don’t think we will see Ajeti play for Celtic again,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I might be wrong, I have been wrong before but I just don’t see how he gets back in.

“Unless there is some sort of massive injury crisis, it would take a miracle.

“We have three top strikers to rely on in Maeda, Giakoumakis and Kyogo.

“Maeda hasn’t quite the ground running in the same way Kyogo has but he’s still scored a few goals.

“Giakoumakis is playing the best he has done for us and obviously he got a great hattrick at the weekend.

“I just don’t see how Ajeti comes back in with Kyogo also coming back.”

Ajeti has scored three goals in 17 appearances total this season.

The striker joined Celtic on a four-year deal from West Ham United in August 2020.
