Celtic news: Ange Postecoglou quit claim issued after journalist’s Man City reveal – expert

Alex McLeish has tipped Ange Postecoglou to rebuff any rival interest this summer in order to remain at Celtic.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said he is “sure” other clubs will be circling around the 56-year-old after his impressive first season at Parkhead.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club this month (4 April), New York Times journalist Rory Smith claimed Postecoglou is highly rated by ” a lot of people” at Manchester City, having worked for their sister team Yokohama F. Marinos.

Smith admitted he does not see the Celtic boss replacing Pep Guardiola but insisted it reflects how well respected he is within coaching circles.

McLeish insisted other clubs will have taken notice of the Australian’s impact at Parkhead.

However, he suggested the Hoops boss will want to continue his journey in Glasgow beyond the summer.

Asked if he thought Postecoglou might be a man in demand this summer, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Why not? You’ve done a good job at the Old Firm.

“When I left Rangers, there were a couple of English teams interested. I’d gone to Scotland on an interim (basis) but it was because of the work I’d done at Rangers.

“There were a few English clubs that came in and I took on one of the challenges in Birmingham.

“Postecoglou, he will love what’s happening at Celtic right now and what he’s done.

“I’m sure that people in football, other clubs, have taken notice. You could not rule it out in the future.

“But right now, he’ll stay at Celtic.”
